OPENNESS

Dolphin Wisdom

“My openness is a gift of my animal nature.

It invites me to greet the unfamiliar with a warm hello, to learn something new each day, and to share whatever I discover with my pod.

The Dolphin teaches me that openness is the beginning of every adventure.

Today, I choose to let the Dolphin remind me that my curiosity keeps my world wide and wonderful.

I am allowed to be fully, freely, and fiercely open.”

Dolphin Behavior

The Dolphin swims through each day with a cheerful sense of discovery. It nudges a piece of seaweed, then tosses it in the air just to watch it fall. A young Dolphin watches its mother hunt, then tries her way, then tries its own—and sometimes both work beautifully. When two pods meet, they whistle back and forth like friends catching up, and soon everyone is playing together. The Dolphin’s life is a joyful experiment, full of new sounds, new games, and new friends.

Openness to Experience

Openness to experience is the bright energy that draws us toward the new and different. People who are open ask wonderful questions, welcome fresh ideas, and find beauty in unexpected places. They are not afraid to try something and simply enjoy the trying. The Dolphin teaches us that openness keeps us young at heart. The pod that explores a new cove finds a feast. The mind that stays curious stays alive to all the beauty the world has to offer.

Reflect on Your Own “Animal Nature”

· Think of a time when your curiosity brought you joy. What did that happiness feel like, and where did it lead you?

· What is one new thing you could try this week—just for the pleasure of experiencing it?

· Who in your life has encouraged you to stay open, and how did their support shape you?

· If the Dolphin could speak to you, what might it say about the simple delight of learning something new every single day?

“The Dolphin greets each morning as if the ocean has never been explored before.”

What do you share with the Dolphin—and what might it teach you about your own animal nature?

The Natural World

The dolphin seen in the image is the common bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus). These warm, intelligent animals live in oceans around the world, traveling in friendly pods and chatting with one another using clicks and whistles. Mothers patiently teach their young to hunt, and some dolphins have learned to carry sea sponges to protect their beaks while foraging—a clever trick passed from mother to daughter for generations. Bottlenose dolphins are thriving in many parts of the world, especially where people keep the water clean and give them space. You can support these joyful explorers by choosing sustainable seafood, reducing plastic waste, and watching dolphins from a respectful distance—letting them stay wild, curious, and free.
